Background

Steve is Professor of Theoretical Physics and of Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering at Michigan State University and the founder of several startups including SafeWeb, Robot Genius, Genomic Prediction, Othram, and SuperFocus.ai. His research interests include quantum field theory, black holes, cosmology, quantum foundations, AI/ML, and computational genomics. Steve was previously Senior-Vice President for Research and Innovation at Michigan State University for 8 years from 2012. Prior to joining MSU, Steve was director of the Institute for Theoretical Science and professor of physics at the University of Oregon. A Junior Fellow of the Harvard Society of Fellows, he was on the faculty at Yale University before moving to the University of Oregon.
