Background

John joined TCV in 2002. He has over 20 years of operational, financial, and technical experience, including leadership positions at several global technology companies. Before joining TCV, John served as one of four CEOs in the Office of the Chairman at Lucent Technologies. John joined Lucent when the company acquired International Network Services (NASDAQ: INSS), where John served as President and CEO. During his five years at INS, revenues profitably grew from $7 million to $440 million, and the company’s employee base increased from 56 to 2,300, establishing INS as the largest and fastest growing network consulting and software company in the world. Prior to joining INS, John was Vice President and General Manager at Unisys Corporation. John began his business career as a sales consultant for CF Software Corporation after serving as a Captain in the United States Army. Prior investments John has been involved with include BeVocal (acquired by Nuance Communications), Capella Education Company (NASDAQ: CPLA), Dermstore Beauty Group (acquired by Target), EmbanetCompass (acquired by Pearson), Fiberlink Communications (acquired by IBM), Global360 (acquired by OpenText), Origin Healthcare Solutions (acquired by the Gores Group), Penson Worldwide (NASDAQ: PNSN), Redback Networks (acquired by Ericsson), TechStyle, Triversity (acquired by SAP Canada), and Webtone Technologies (acquired by Fidelity Information Services).

Interests

John is a co-founder of the McDrew Charity Tennis Classic, a member of the Canary Foundation Leadership Council which is focused on early detection of cancer , a board member of RapidAI which enables better outcomes for stroke patients, a board member of Triple Impact Connections which creates jobs for military spouses, a board member of cognitive exchange which helps military service members transition into civilian life and an ardent supporter of Sentinels of Freedom which assist severely wounded post 9/11 veterans pursuing meaningful civilian careers. He also serves on the board of reworktraining.org. which trains and places Black and Hispanic candidates from overlooked communities into good paying SaaS sales jobs.

Education

John holds a B.S. degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an M.S. degree in Business Policy from Columbia University.
